Community activity is about doing something in our community because we want to or we feel we should rather than because we have to.
There are lots of ways to take civic(公共的) responsibility and be active in your community: Joining a local environmental or clean-up group, helping with a primary school play.
What can teenagers get from being involved?
1. By getting involved with community activities, teenagers can get a chance to work with positive adult role models besides their parents. Working with other adults encourages teenagers to see the world in different ways.
2.Young people are busy working out who they are and where they fit in the world. Being involved in the community activities can give your child a positive way of understanding who he is. As a result, he might come to see himself as helpful or just a “good” person. Being involved in the community activities can also help create a sense of being connected to the community.
3.Community activities give teenagers the chance to use the skills they already have. For example, your child could use the cooking skills he’s learned at home at a community kitchen. This kind of experience gives him the chance to see how many skills he has and how valuable they can be. Voluntary work and community activities are great opportunities to develop skills to get a job.
4.Being able to balance free time, work and study is very important to kid’s future life. Being part of a community activity could help your children to get more organized and start to manage their own time.
5.Finding a community activity can develop teenagers’ self-confidence. Your child can learn to deal with challenges, communicate with different types of people. This is good for teenagers’ self-esteem(自尊).
It can be very positive for young people to have something that gets them involved, where others expect them to turn up and take part, and where they’re supported to achieve something as part of a group.
