The young software developer also said winning a competition led her to realize the influence of technology on people's life. Yang's father, who works in the technology industry, was the one who introduced computers and Scratch, a programming program aimed at kids, to her.

However, Yang's life as a young software developer has not been without difficulties. Many business-men didn't take her work seriously. Yang had to start an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign(众筹) to support her Timeless app project. That effort raised more than $10,000.

"I think perseverance(坚持不懈) is really important," Yang said. "Never let anyone tell you that you shouldn't be in the field that you want to be in the most."

She encouraged other young people to believe in themselves, because the teenagers of today will be tomorrow's leaders.
